The talents of LLCC students were on display featuring LLCC’s award-winning choir who performed, as well as LLCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality students who created and served the delicious four-course gourmet meal. The LLCC Highway and
Construction careers students built the marvelous tiki bar that served as a beautiful backdrop while also providing service for guests. “We are truly thankful to our sponsors and guests who helped make the Gala a success for the benefit of student learning at Lincoln Land,” said Charlotte J. Warren, Ph.D., president of LLCC.
With 17 years of experience as a leader in higher education, Rebecca L. Watts, Ph.D. is an advocate for community colleges and always speaks proudly of her beginnings at LLCC. A 1992 graduate of LLCC and former director of public relations and marketing at LLCC, Watts currently serves as a regional vice president of Western Governor’s University (WGU) where she leads university operations across a 12-state area from Virginia to Maine.
An accomplished musician and pianist who began playing piano at the age of five, this educational innovator gives back to music students at LLCC through a scholarship established with her spouse, Richard. Congratulations, Dr. Watts!
Around the World was the theme for the 2022 annual faculty and staff giving campaign known as LEAGUE. Faculty and staff gathered around campus this spring to participate in some fun activities and enjoy lunch. Nearly $50,000 was raised to benefit student learning at LLCC through scholarships, the Pay It Forward student emergency assistance fund and new equipment.
Back by popular demand, the LLCC Foundation in partnership with LLCC’s Culinary and Hospitality Arts Program is offering a gourmet dinner kit pickup on Friday, October 7. The menu will feature cuisine from a variety of regions and give culinary students a first-hand opportunity to prepare and serve the meal which can then be finished with a little preparation at home.
Gourmet dinner kits with drink pairings are $150 and each kit serves two people. Watch for further details later this summer or call the Foundation at 217-786-2785.
LLCC Foundation board members on the scholarship selection committee find the role both daunting at times as well as rewarding. “It’s truly one of the most rewarding Foundation board committees to serve on and so gratifying knowing that we are helping so many students,” says Neil Jordan, scholarship committee member. Nearly 400 scholarship applications were received from Dec. 1 – March 1, 2022. Of those applicants, the board awarded 242 students more than $446,000 in scholarships to attend LLCC. “Thanks to our donors, lives will be forever changed through the assistance provided to these students, said Karen Sanders, VP/advancement and executive director, LLCC Foundation. “And thanks to the committee who spend countless hours reviewing applications.”
